What we do

The charity works on the principles of building trust and co-production to provide sustainable solutions, creating social resilience.

  • Through the rdp programme, CSR seeks to help churches re-think their aims, vision and purpose by looking at innovative and inspirational ways of using indoor and outdoor spaces to re-engage with their local communities in meaningful and sustainable ways.
  • Via our Wellbeing activity, CSR is engaging with young people in new and creative ways, responding to their needs by exploring how they see the world and how they want to craft their future.

Being a Good Neighbour is a core moral and spiritual principle – it is deeply rooted in all that CSR and GNN do – supporting the community, overcoming division and offering daily acts of kindness.

Why CSR matters

As our lives change and the world changes around us, so do the challenges we face. The church – always a cornerstone of support for communities, has recognised that it has to change too. Here are CSR, we have been championing this direction for over a century, delivering forward thinking and sustainable social action solutions.

CSR is about future-proofing what we do and the way we do it, making sure we are relevant to people’s lives and delivering support, care and compassion in a way that remains responsive to need in an accessible, authentic and worthwhile way. These are not just a collection of nice buzz words – they genuinely underpin our mission and ethos and guide us towards asset-based community development (ABCD).

ABCD is an approach that focusses on identifying the skills, passions and resources of individuals and communities to address challenges and build stronger more sustainable solutions and ABCD is at the heart of what we do and how we do it.

CSR is committed to moving the church to a place where it can re-engage, reposition and reinvigorate its offer.

The Council for Social Responsibility (CSR) is an independent charity registered since 1963, although its work can be traced back to at least 1920.
