Established in 1976, The Good Neighbours Network (GNN) is a unique and valuable asset to local communities, providing just what is needed in a caring, people focused and nimble way.
Model Foundations
The Good Neighbours model is one of autonomy, self-organisation and eventual self-resourcing. This is both appreciated by the groups themselves, as it secures their independences and enables responsive and consistent delivery at low cost. Groups offers vary but the most common are medical related driving, befriending, social events and cafes and always a smile.
Project background
Historically this was funded partly by Adults’ Health & Care in Hampshire County Council, and partly by the NHS health commissioners for Hampshire (Hampshire and Isle of Wight Integrated Care Board). Funding ended in 2023 from the former and 2024 for the latter due to their extreme budget constraints. There was no issue with the work itself and they continue to be fully supportive. CSR recognising the importance of the Network approach and the people helping people philosophy agreed to fund GNN for three years to enable the development of a sustainable model that would not compromise its integrity and could allow for future development.
Meanwhile GNN in partnership with Citizens Advice Hampshire has secured funding from SGN for a two year Energy project.
