GNN celebrated 50 years of acts of kindness recently with a celebration party ay Holywell House in Swanmore. 120 people from groups all over Hampshire were represented and Deputy Lieutenant Mrs Annabelle Boyes, and the Bishop of Portsmouth, The Rt Revd Jonathan Frost, spoke and thanked the volunteers for their work and that of their predecessors.
It was all started in 1976 by the vicar of Droxford, the Revd John Townsend, and a social worker Bee Kenchington. The network now consists of 116 groups who between them represent over 4,000 volunteers and who last year undertook 161,000 tasks.
Thank you to all who have contributed so much to this movement of ‘people helping people’ over many years, and long may it continue.
