In 2019, over 8 million people in England were living in overcrowded, unaffordable or unsuitable housing and it has only got worse since then. As a result of this, the Archbishops set up a commission which wrote a report in 2021 called ‘Coming Home’, a summary of which can be read here. It sets out vital actions for the Church, Government and other Stakeholders to take with a focus on building better communities and more truly affordable homes, not just houses.
As part of CSR’s contribution to this major area of concern, we have been working in partnership with EMMA ESG MMC Manufacturing Academy (MMC= Modern Methods of Construction) to develop local solutions to these issues.
The ambition is to set up a manufacturing facility, with a training arm, to build high-quality, sustainable, low energy, water smart, social and affordable homes on development sites across Hampshire, Portsmouth, Southampton, the Isle of Wight and beyond and to provide them in ways which are more affordable.
CSR and EMMA have aligned values that with a practical, hands-on approach to our work, enables us to work together to make a difference in our local communities.
